The idea that started with a home-built bar and video camera with just Chris and Julia has grown a lot! Nowadays we’re headquartered in Carlsbad, California and have a great and growing team of people who are all dedicated to serving the craft bar community.

Our products, which were created specifically for bartenders and mixologists, found their way into home bars and we couldn’t be happier to provide the same beautiful and professional bar tools to everyone who loves cocktails!

Who Are We?

Hi – we’re Chris and Julia, and we’re the husband-wife team who founded A Bar Above way back in our dining room in 2013.

Chris was working as a professional bartender and was frustrated with poor quality tools that rusted and broke behind his high-volume bar. We decided to do something about it!

We’re dedicated to creating the best products we can. Thank you for supporting us and the hospitality industry!

Made from the Good Stuff This shaker is made from Stainless Steel 304, which is “food grade” and really high quality. That means no weird rust spots appearing – the first or thousandth time through the dishwasher. It’s also a much safer alternative to a Boston Shaker with a glass cup. No glass to break here!

Weighted / Unweighted Combination Look closely at the picture of the larger shaker – see that seam around the bottom? That’s a weight that’s been welded to the bottom. After years behind the bar, Chris found that the combination of one cup “weighted” and one “unweighted” is the perfect balance – the unweighted cup provides a perfect seal but the weighted cup provides a bit of rigidity to make it easy to open when you’re ready.

Our Story

Way back in 2013, founders Chris and Julia built a bar in their dining room and launched A Bar Above.

What started as an educational website quickly became a trusted bar industry resource. Armed with Chris’ decade of bar experience, they partnered with a factory and launched their premium barware in 2016.

Since then A Bar Above has launched a full line of premium barware and plans to continue offering new products moving forward. All while supporting our mission of “Serving the people who Serve Great Drinks!”
